The Repertoires group was started by Nthato Malete and Larry Nhlane in 2007. Both individuals were leaders in separate dance crews, which at the time were considered to be the best crews. They competed against each other to try gain the respect and title of being better than the other. This however always ended up as a draw as the crews held the same standards. The two leaders then decided to join forces at a church youth group at Rhema Church in Randburg.
They started performing at high schools and at major Hip-Hop Dance competitions. They quickly gained the support of their community and they gained recognition and popularity in Johannesburg and other parts of the country. Presently, they are celebrated all over Africa; their association with Jozi gave them exposure to the rest of the African continent, and in 2008, Jozi was awarded the MTVBase Best Live Act Award.
After a short break from the public dance scene, the Repertoires are back in 2011 with their own reality TV show, Running with the Reps, which airs on Fridays on VuzuTV; currently the highest rated show on the channel, above all local and international programs.
The Repertoires are considered to be one of the best street dance crews in South Africa. Their members’ ages vary between 18 and 25. In all, the Repertoires power team consists of twelve dancers, two managers, and four DJs.
